Warding

Postby Moonknight » Fri Nov 29, 2013 5:06 pm

Someone remind me if warding stays for the entire group during a battle or if it goes away once that unit dies?

For example, if I have a Crusader before my Barbarian in fight order, and the Crusader dies, does his warding carry over to my Barbarian when he's fighting?

Couldn't find any warding info in the Wiki...

Personal warding only works for the unit with the bonus (crusader). Group warding works for everyone (mammoth).

What happens when 120 Group Warding faces 120 group ambush?

I am assuming that warding first caps at 70 and it applies to 120 and the result is 36 group warding.

When 20% group warding applies to 120 group ambush group ambush is calculated as 94 but it caps at 70. Total group ambush is later added to personal ambush.

Group ambush is also capped at I think 70.

So in this case:
What happens when 120 Group Warding faces 120 group ambush?

I would assume both are capped to 70. Then 70*(1-.7) = 21 group ambush

This case:
When 20% group warding applies to 120 group ambush group ambush is calculated as 94 but it caps at 70. Total group ambush is later added to personal ambush.

This seems wrong. Once again I would expect group ambush to cap at 70. Then person ambush should be added to that (say +16 from a wolfrider) to get 86 and then the group warding gets applied to give 86*(1-.2) = 69.

If I remember correct group ambush and group warding is capped at 70. Then personal ambush and personal warding are added so you can have 130% ambush but face 110% warding which mean 0% ambush.

I think both group ambush and group warding must cap at 70 first. So I am assuming the formula below is valid.

Net Ambush = (Group Ambush(maximum 70) + Personal Ambush (no max) )*(100-Group Warding(maximum 70)+Personal Warding (no maximum)/100

Which is a bit scary because it can let an individual unit go over 100 warding making it impossible to ambush. This esp matters for Barbs that end up with 5-7 hits and have a personal warding item and a Ranger bodyguard (I faced this combo before Grp Warding was capped at 70% and it was impossible to stop such a Barb unless you had one of your own).

For balance reasons no unit should be able to exceed 85% warding. That may not seem very high but a L3 Assassin with 24% ambush will only have 3.3% chance to kill vs 85% warding. A unit with 85% warding survives a stack of 8 units with 24% ambush 75% of the time which seems plenty good enough and may be a touch too high still.

Is there a personal warding item? I don't think Barbarian can get personal warding only Ranger has it.

There currently isn't. But at some point I'd imagine there will be a new L1 item with something like 20 personal warding. Definitely seems like a very reasonable L1 item.

Even thought the Ranger is the only hero with personal warding now, that may not be the case after the next major hero update. And even a Ranger can get pretty tough to kill if she gets 4 Hits (from item), 50 strength after bless before any bonus's or other items.

So limiting Warding to 85% would be a smart thing to do before such items get added or future updates allow other heroes to get Warding.
