Two heroes in a stack - doubt about experience and bonus

I have two questions on stacks with multiple heroes:

1- When you have two or more heroes in a stack how is experience shared between them?
2- A Valkyria and a Paladin in a same stack will add both Leadership bonus or just use the largest of the two values?

I once thought all the heros abilities stacked and learned that the Valk and Pala don't, but had a question about the items. If a Paly has +10 leadership and is stacked with a DK who has a +3 Leadership defend item, does the stack get +13 or only +10? Versus giving the Paly the item and having him be +13 by himself. Do items stack or act like paly and valk bonuses and still only take the highest that is equipped for that battle? Hope that made sense.

I would assume you only get +10. The Pally must wear the item to get the bonus.

Items *do* stack but only on one hero, not across multiple heroes.
