Opponent's Gold

Postby Moonknight » Thu Mar 10, 2011 12:53 am

What is the rule when you capture an opponent's city surrounding gold (outside of plundering)? I sometimes get a little amount by just capturing the city, is that taken out of my enemy's pool?

Also, what happens when the last city of an opponent is taken, do you get all of their leftover gold or does it just disappear?

Moonknight,

I believe the amount of gold you get is their (total/total number of cities they have). If they have 2000 gold and 10 cities you get 200 gold for capturing a city. If they have 2000 gold and 2 cities you get 1000 gold for capturing a city.

So when you take their last city you get the remainder of their gold.

related topic: i always thought plundering brought you half the purchase price of a unit. Is this not so? IE if you pillage a dragon castle with only a draon in it you would get 1000 gold. Anyone?

Kenc80,

I do believe you are correct..you plunder half the cost of the unit(s).

I didn't realize this, it makes me reconsider some of my tactics that I've employed...

Yeah, if you see a player with lots of gold and not many cities...nab a city from them (if you can).

Pillager,

Harder to do this now in Beta3 since heroes arrive on an assembly line and you rarely have more than 1000 gold in your coffers unless you are saving for specific allies or to buy production.

In Beta2 it was a real tactic as in a couple of games including one I am still playing, I ended up low on cities (4-8) and high in gold (3K) waiting turn after turn with no hero offer. So as I lost cities I'd literally lose a large chunk of my gold and thus have even less chance for a hero the next turn. Thankfully that changed for the better in Beta3.

The reward for plundering seems to be slightly randomized, but it was traditionally half. For example: I just got 32 gold instead of 40 for plundering a Scout.

I tend to save up gold for decent allies in number, generally 2+ demons/devils/dragons. Not sure if this is the best way to go...just cashing in every 1000 plus change for a hero (and possibly an ally) seems like it would have its own advantages.

Just to clarify,
Plunder gives 40% of the purchase cost for a unit. We lowered it from 50% since you plunder all production from a city, i.e. getting quite some gold anyway.

When occupying a city from an human player you get: Gold/number of cities/2.
The player that lose gold lose: Gold/number of cities.
So half the gold is lost so to speak.
