Hero Combinations

Postby Argammon » Sun May 13, 2012 7:09 pm

Perhaps I should have posted this in the hero balancing thread. I was, however, afraid that it would get lost there. My point is that the new heroes are a huge advantage not by they own but because you can combine them with the preexisting heroes. Here is a recent gameplay example.

Map: Central Sahara
PLayers: Argammon (no new heroes) vs Igor (new heroes)

Obviously, who controls the central island usually wins the game. Therefore that is where most of the fighting is going on. Both of us have a high level amazon. Igor also has a decent horselord. I basically had 2 options:

1) Attack his stack in the desert and fight against +25 horselord command.

2) Sit in my cities and fight against +20 amazon command.

I choose option 1) because I had a sandworm. The result was that I lost the fight even though I had better and more expensive units. Now tell me that the horselord amazon combination is not an advantage for paying players. The amazons weakness that i cannot defend itself on the open field basically is mitigated by the horselord.

Argammon,

He did have 2 heroes to your 1. So he could just as easily have had a decent DK/Paladin as his 2nd hero and maybe not had +25 but +9 or +10. No idea if that would have been enough to win the battle but it might have.

That said, I understand the point you are making. He gets access to strategies you don't simply because the heroes are different. In this case the Horselord is basically a +25 Leadership on Defense unit.

There are really only 3 options:

1) Piranha/Snotling decide to give everyone access to the new heroes.
2) Purchase the new heroes.
3) Those who don't have the new heroes will have to avoid playing specialized maps where the new heroes can make a real difference (mostly on 50x maps where the Barbarian can overwhelm a map or where there is a dominant terrain that the Horselord can take advantage of).

KGB,

I should have won the fight in absence of the horselord. Even with the horselord it was a 50/50 fight because I had the better units. But as you mentioned, you understand my point anyways. So, this was just for clarification. :D

@ 3: I think there are also many big maps where grassland, for example, plays an important role.

@ 2: I don't like the concept of "pay to win". I understand that they want to earn a few bucks though.

If possible, I would like to see that you any money spent does not affect the probability of winning the game. Perhaps, you should be able to spend credits to get an enhanced map editor or advanced modding capabilities in general. It is also ok that the map grid is only available to gold members and that the amount of games you can play simultaneously is limited.

Hello everybody!
Seems that new heroes already available for everyone.
In this connection I have 2 questions:
1) What stopped you to do so after my post in "0.8 New Hero Balancing Thread", Fri May 04, 2012 2:08 am? Why you need one else, quite the same, words from another player?
2) I have payed some credits to buy new heroes. If now these heroes are free, will this amount be returned to me?

Best regards,
Igor

1) We like to listen to the community as a whole, and then discuss internaly as well before reaching our decision. Im sorry if it seems like we react a bit slow sometimes, but I think its better to make (hopefully) well considered changes rather than jumping around making changes left and right :-)

2) Yes, all who has payed credits for the heroes will be refunded in the coming days

Ok, if all the community contains 2 people only (me and Argammon, who both said the same thing), that means that I am a half of all community :D
This is joke, of course. But let me put attention, that if you were discuss this on the forum a month ago, the problem should be solved earlier. Hope I right in this :)
