The New Look

Postby Pillager » Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:22 pm

I've been making maps with the new graphics, and wanted to make some comments.

The new units look very nice, big improvement here. I think the archon (I like his magical bluebird look) and spider (hairy menacing legs) are more characterful (but, less technically impressive) in the current version. Otherwise the new versions are absolutely superior.

The cities are more of a mixed bag. Some are quite nice, others are not at all to my taste.

Here is my rating (In order of best to worst)
1)White - nice, sturdy looking castle
2)Black - smoky tower
3)Blue - crazy mass of towers (strange perspective issues)
4)Green - thin white towers and wall (kinda busy)
5)Teal - Really nice looking picture of some halls on a hill (not fortified looking)
6)Orange - Middle eastern palace (where is my dwarven rockpile?)
7)Red - Flying castle dripping lava (nice looking, some will love it...way over the top for me though)
8)Yellow - ziggurat (really flat, both physically and interest-wise)

Taken as a whole, a nice upgrade.

Sounds cool, I tried to make a map twice too but its not working well.

I can't seem to save my maps after I work on them a bit. Did you have this problem?

I won't even try to make a whole map in one sitting if it ends up getting lost and all the work goes to waste.

SCIkick,
What webbrowser are you using?
Do you see any javascript errors?

Have you tried just starting a map and then saving it directly?

I haven't had any problem saving maps. Well... I have to reload the map after saving to edit cities (the editor is still a bit quirky).

I'm using google chrome. Big improvement over explorer for this site.

I sent y'all a message about some of my mapmaking issues, and some questions I had....

Pillager,

I wonder if they are the same questions/issues I've had.

We almost need a map editing forum so we can pool our knowledge there for those wanting to make maps...

Good idea, I've created a map making forum now.

Pillager/KGB, lets move all mapeditor questions and concerns over to the new mapeditor forum that Piranha has setup. :-)

Pillager, maybe you can describe the edit-city bug a little bit also, how to re-create it?
