Team Games Question

I see that the number of open games is mostly dominated by team games which is something I suspected would happen as they are much more fun than large FFA (free for alls).

So I have a question about team games.

Is it possible to join such a game without being on a team? In other words if there is a game setup as a 3v3, can I simply join one of the sides without belonging to that team? If you can't, it becomes a pain to belong to a 2 player team, a 3 player team, a 4 player team etc and then convince all your team mates to join multiple games if they don't want to play that many. So I was hoping to literally just enter as an independent player in some games (non-ladder matches obviously). Is that still possible to do or will I get kicked out because I don't officially belong to a team?

Just a quick reply:

Normal (melee) teamgames are open for everyone, teams are created based on which team you click in when you join. So you can just join. Noone can kick you out

Ladder-teamgames are obviously only open for players in a team.
