A Real Battle Bug

Piranha,

Game 4143 (Smash Round 2).

There appears to be a battle bug with the Demon calculation (or perhaps with the Banding bonus in general)

This turn (41) a MAJOR battle took place:

Me: Paladin/Archon/Dragon/Devil/Ghost/3 Demons
HatchFactory: Paladin/DK/Grand Archon/Dragon/Devil/Ghost/Pegasi

I was reported as 94% likely to win. Something was wrong so I looked at the actual battle dice rolls. The complicated (and I mean complicated since every bonus was in play) bonus's all add up correctly. My Demons report as 57 strength (40 from bless, 15 from banding, 2 from Morale). My opponents look correct as well. But when you look at the dice roll numbers it's totally completely wrong. For example the first unit I faced was a 32 strength Pegasi. The game says I am 86.45% likely to hit but the real odds of a hit are much lower. Later a Demon faced his Dragon of 52 strength and reported as 73% likely to hit (with only 2 more strength).

It's like the banding bonus got added twice or something because after the 3 demons died and my Ghost entered battle his numbers look right (22 vs 37 showing about 32% likely to get a hit). Now, my hero did have a group anti-air item (+7) which would help but can't account for that much difference.

KGB has met winning conditions. I will not end my turn so that the game will remain open for a little while for inspection.
No fixing on this particular game required as I was about to surrender.

I looked at the battle and yes this is complicated. You have leadership antiair +21 on all your units thats why is says max 75, you didnt fight the pegasi with 57 but 75 since its airborne so the numbers are in fact correct:

75 / 100 = 0,75
32 / 100 = 0,32

1 - 0,75 = 0,25
1 - 0,32 = 0,68

75 * 0,68 = 51
32 * 0,25 = 8

(51 / (51+8))*100 = 86,44%

I look at your paladin and see base leadership 13 and an item giving him +8 leadership anti air so leadership 21 anti air looks right. In the battle you have your base leadership +13 that is canceled by the enemy archon, and the +21 leadership anti air is treated separately which I guess it should be to display all bonuses. A leadership flag should be shown to indicate that this is leadership anti air and not just the units own anti air bonus.
Seems like the grand archon doesn't cancel leadership anti air. You should only have +5 leadership anti air and been fighting with 62 battle against the pegasi instead of 75.

If you bring up the battle again and closely look at the numbers bellow the units you can see the demons battle is jumping between 75 and 57 when they face the devil for example.

So from what I can see the problem is leadership anti air doesn't get canceled correct by archons and it should display with a leadership icon. I'll put this on the list for Beta5.

Piranha,

Thanks for the explanation. So it's the item that's bugged not the Demon's banding bonus. That makes the Bow of Icarus with it's +8 Anti-Air skill extra useful right now

Incidentally, I still don't think Archons should cancel any item powers at all. If that were the case then the Bow would just give +8 all the time against fliers.

I agree with KGB, Archons should not cancel out any item powers...

We might be able to change that by beta6. But its a pretty big change so wont be in beta5.

In this scenario described, if the +8 anti-aircraft is added to the base leadership becoming +21, and the +13 leadership is negated by the pink angel, the final result should be anti-aircraft +8. In no way was the pink angel negating items, but it should have negated the hero's leadership that added to the anti-aircraft making it an obscene +21. I got hosed in a game against a hero with this same item with eagles. The result was a +47 anti-aircraft for the eagles, add a dragon +12 and the hero's leadership +13 the result is an eagle with the strength of 82; so the opposing hero's leadership adding in twice, once factoring into the anti-aircraft, and again as original leadership. Items are great, but maybe they bugged ones need to be pulled out until fixed.

This makes me recall a battle in a previous game vs. KGB "1v1 Smash" in which eagles were 80+ outside of a city in a hero stack, KGB had said anti fly item. I thought he had a +21 or so item but it was only +8, when I added up bonuses I believe the +21 antifly leadership was added on top of the base leadership of 13.

I have a mighty (un-blessed) crow in my retinue 8-) which slew a weak pathetic dragon. The dragon was blessed and in a temple with a dwarf. My hero had no anti-aircraft items, but was accompanied by an eagle. After pecking out the eyes of the dwarf and mutilating his corpse, my mighty crow jumped in strength from 35 to 61  (that is a 26 point jump, the same as an eagle) My crow flew circles around the Dragon, and in the confusion the Dragon roasted his left wing to ashes  . I'm sure there are no bugs... I just produce Crows of Doom
