Good news,
this is now fixed in 0.91 code.
If you are blessed your limit will be increased the same amount, i.e.:
battle +5
move +2
undead lore +1
Barbarian doesn't bless?

Indeed, this is great news for all higher level heroes.
Now if only heroes who had the flight ability could serve as a mount for other heroes...
