string errors (apostrophes , etc)

In game chat and even in game listings, I often see characters that don't get displayed properly. I'm guessing these are linux characters that require special handling, like apostrophes, semi-colons, etc. I'm not sure abou that, but normally instead of the proper character, I see a slash instead.

A current example is in the game titled "dante\s inferno". Presumably it should be "dante's inferno" and the server doesn't handle the apostrophe correctly.
