Scenario Editor

I've been busily making maps... but I would like to take it a step further and create some scenarios.

If the map editor could be used to place starting armies, set starting income for each player, and give one player multiple cities... you would have a full on scenario editor.

One would also need to be able to select between default setup (random units, no production, ect) and scenario setup.

It would be nice to have some asymmetrical starts...one player beginning with a horde of troops and gold, but only one city, another player with several cities, few armies and empty coffers (for example).

Pillager,

Yeah I've asked for the same thing.

I also want to be able to place more than one army in the neutrals to create stronger neutrals. Place neutral armies on the map outside cities to do things like guard temples, ruins, bridges etc. Control exactly what armies/production a player started with in their capitol. So far we've gotten the ability to place Razed cities on the map for future use in Beta4. I suspect we'll get the others at a future date like Beta5/6.

Then we'd have DLR functionality in terms of scenario/map creation.

Interestingly enough, the sample scenario you described was an actual game option in DLR called 'Against the Horde' (tho you could clearly manually create the same thing in the scenario editor at the expense of a few hours work).

If we add some kind of scenario editor, would it be better with random assignment of the players to the existing startingpositions, or would it be preferd that you select a specific color in the gamelobby, and that color is setup specifically in the map by the mapcreator.

For example, say there is a scenario with black color starting with 5 cities, and then red and green colors starting with 1 city each. In the gamelobby, would it be prefered that it is randomized between the 3 players joining who gets to play what "role"/position in the scenario, or would it be prefered that you already in the gamelobby, by selecting black color then know you will play blacks role in the scenario?

Personally I think it would be better if you picked in the game lobby.

That way everyone knows their role so that if you don't want that role you won't join that game.

This also helps with team games in the future. So that players can assign themselves to teams as they want.

Although I can see that sometimes players might want things randomized :)

So maybe there needs to be a game option like FOW and other settings where you get random sides or assigned sides.
