warlords 3

Personally, i would like to see the game look a bit more like warlords 3;be
more units, an army editor
an army editor would be a great addition to a player investment system which would attract all sorts of players and not just past warlords players.
and by an army editor i mean the thing in warlords 3 where you can create your own side and add dragons to it or increase the mana or allow item trading or choose allies
...yeah
basically more like warlords 3

opinions? support? comments?

Warlords 3 was (and is) superior to warlords 2 in many ways. But, III is quite a bit more complex than II, and recreating it would likely be significantly more work. Sure, there were lots of units in warlords III, but they were in no way balanced.

Personally I never want to see the term 'mana crystal' again. DLR is in my top 5 games of all time, but the magic system was a shoddy piece of work.

LOL. Yeah the mana crystal concept was slightly unbalanced. But it could have been fixed with another patch that limited the crystals (either total number you could get or a length of time they remained active before losing their magic power).

I dunno. I thought the magic system in 1.02 wasn't that bad. It certainly work well enough to allow thousands of online and PBEM games to be competitive. Or are you just talking about the mana crystals specifically?

Yeah, I'm probably being overly critical. The whole mana crystal thing just seemed like it was hastily tacked on to the warlords system. It is functional in its way, but seems very...inelegant to me. A bit of an ugly kludge. Also, finding 10 crystals in a hidded ruin can easily swing a game.

I think I would have liked to see magic production tied to the map in an obvious, visible way. Towers, come to mind. Magical heroes could choose a mana production upgrade (like the thief's gold upgrade). Some magic items with mana production could be thrown in the mix (for spice). I also would have liked to see less enchantment, and more straight up spellcasting (like nuking an enemy stack with a fireball from distance).
