Single play?

First of all, salute to you for taking this title up again!
I have been playing since the first Warlords hit the shelves (Sirians...)
Warlords and Elite are two games ive really been missing.

I wonder if you have any plans for a Single player mode in real(turnbased)time?

I often just wanna fiddle whit something for a couple of hours, and single player mode would be awsome.

I tried installing W2deluxe in dosbox but sadly it wont install correctly in win 7, i saw "Piranahs" message in the support forum there and decided to check it out.

Let the war begin...

when we started this project single player wasn't something we had plans to do but we have changed our mind.

We want to make single player. After all a lot of people don't want to learn a new game by plying vs others.

I think it will take a while before we are there but we are planing it.

The AI would be very important for multiplayer games as well. In most games I played one if not more players dropped out early since they had a bad start. In that case it would be good if the AI could take over in order to prevent that some guy picks up all the empty cities and gets a huge advantage.

If/when we build an AI for singleplayer it is a good idea to make it possible for the AI to takeover any dropped out players in a multiplayer game. :-)
One thing to take into consideration however is that when playing singleplayer, we could build the AI in JS and let it run on the client computer. But if a player in a MP game should be taken over by an AI, that AI needs to be run on the server.

An AI would also be nice in multiplayer games, if you aren't playing with the full 8. A few robot stooges are more interesting to deal with than sitting duck neutral cities.

Pillager,

Even a rudimentary AI is going to take a lot of work. As in months if not more.

What could be done instead is to implement the 'active' neutral setting the War2/DLR had. Where neutral cities produce men. The extra twist could be a game option to allow the neutral to produce starting on turn 1 without being attacked. Say at half the normal rate of player cities (so 1 turn units take 2 turns, 2 turn units take 4 turns etc). This would let the neutrals gradually fill up with men making them more challenging.

KGB,

Active cities would certainly better than non-respondos.

What about a simple AI...like neutral cities build unit they can't pay the upkeep. They then send half their troops out to attack the nearest, player controlled, city.
