I assume you mean from an item since only the Ranger has individual Warding.

The way I do it is look at a battle involving that hero and then figure out if he has warding or not.

I just looked and it worked for me. You have to have a unit with Ambush attack the hero in order for his warding to show. Otherwise why would you see it?

Note: There is only 1 item with personal warding and it has a value of 20.

The Scout doesn't have any Ambush so how are you going to see if he has any Warding? It's the same thing as attacking a hero and trying to figure out if he has a +X Attack item or a +X Leadership/Chaos when attacking item.

The power must activate in order to be shown.

You'll need to send in an Orc / Wolfrider / Ghost on a suicide mission.

Or just assume all heroes have a 20% warding item unless you yourself have the only item.

An Orc is definitely a better unit to use to scout an enemy stack than a scout is.

A scout still has value because it helps with terrain and has 1 UL.
