As a hardcore gamer of persistant mmorpg it crossed my mind about the potential of a "Campaign mode" for Warlords.
I understand you have all ready thought a lot about long term goals yourselves, but please consider this only as a suggestion.
The Idea I have is in the spirit of the old Warlords, which I think is important, and it does not change the game play in any way, just adds some new unique aspect to it.
One idea I have is to add "Campaign mode".
* 8 players play pre-built mini maps the same way we do now in beta.
* The winner of the mini map conquers this map which is actually a territory of a larger map (with eg 10 territories).
* The winner also decides which territory to battle for next (one of the 10). It could be an all-ready conqured territory, which may result in someone loosing that territory.
* Each Warlord starts a new mini map from scratch (no armies from previous mini map).
* When choosing starting city for a new mini map the previous conquerer chooses last (or could be random)
PROS:
* Each minimap game has a long term goal which would get a persistant touch to it.
* Each warlord will have the same warlords playing each other, learning their tactics.
CONS:
* If one Walord drops out of a "Campaign" it will need to be replaced by a new Warlord.
* Warlords might form alliances which would make the game too hard to compete in.
What is required:
Except for a lot of coding...
10 pre-built well balanced maps
1 Campaign map which is interactive and part of the campaign mode game play.
How its played:
At the start of the game one random Warlord out of eight chooses a territory from the interactive Campaign map to fight for. Once its been conquered the conquerer will choose another nearby territory to fight for.
The winner of all territories will be announced winner of the campaign.
