Army simulator

Postby magian » Sat Apr 20, 2013 12:29 pm

I noticed the 'army simulator' the other day, sort of interesting and might be useful to those who don't know the bonus system very well (or aren't mathematically inclined). My question is; why not go whole hog and make a 'battle simulator'. I can already plug in both armies and see their relative strengths, why not add in a win percentage? You know that some players have these calcs down, why not level the playing field?

This was answered by KGB before. Battle simulator gives attacker huge advantage by allowing to choose the optimum fight order.

We had a working battle simulator, what you see in the army simulator are the remains but with the calculation code removed. Some people might build a simulator and use it. We can't prevent that, but at least they will have to go back and fourth between the game and their program + they might not know all the details like hero bonuses or blessings. I think if we integrate a simulator in the interface you will test every battle in the simulator first which takes away a lot of the fun.

As pointed out, we planed to do it but didn't because people didn't want it and it became pretty clear to me when creating and testing it that it was just taking away fun.

I prepared a basic Excel spreadsheet giving you a guideline for winning chance for one unit versus 1 unit. Unfortunately I can't post it here. From the guidelines you may try to guess your winning chance in a battle. An interesting pattern emerges for the troops with strength more than 20.

1) 2 HIT VERSUS 2 HIT
Approximately

a) Having 5 strength more makes you 60%-40% favorite (1.5 times)
b) Having 15 strength more makes you 75%-25% favorite (3 times)
c) Having 25 strength more makes you 90%-10% favorite (9 times)

2) 2 HIT VERSUS 3 HIT

a) Having 15 strength more gives you equal chances
b) Having 25 strength more makes you 60%40% favorite
c) Having 35 strength more makes you 75%-25% favorite
d) Having equal strength makes the defender 25%-75% favorite

3) 3 HIT VERSUS 3 HIT
a) Having 5 strength more makes you 60%-40% favorite (1.5 times)
b) Having 15 strength more makes you 75%-25% favorite (3 times)
c) Having 25 strength more makes you 90%-10% favorite (9 times)

Similar to the 2 versus 2 case. But when you do 4 versus 4 or 5 versus 5 you will see that it changes somewhat and start to favor the stronger part bit by bit. So it does not give you a precise battle calculator but just an idea about how strong a unit of yours is.
