Request: Have Heroes continue to raise slowly

Postby Jeremy » Fri Feb 04, 2011 10:03 pm

In this Beta version, I've really enjoyed that it takes a long time to raise Heros up. Getting your Dread Knight to +2 attack and +1 Command for the full +3 is a big deal.

I encourage you to keep this slow rate of raising.

One of the things that I wasn't wild about in Warlords2 was that a stack with a +4 or +5 Hero was pretty much unbeatable. Less fun for the defender, and less strategic overall. I'd rather the Heroes be important, but not the be-all-and-end-all of the game.

So consider that when you change the cost of improving Hero abilities -- don't make them much cheaper than they are now. Also, items need to not be too overpowered.

Thanks,

Jeremy

[On another note, Dread Knights feel MUCH more powerful than the other two types of Heros. I almost create them. Maybe knock a point or two off their movement -- people would still play them. Alternatively, have a particular type of Hero show up -- that way, you'd have to decide if you'd rather have a Valkerie now, or risk waiting for a Dread Knight later.]

Jeremy,

I am not sure if you are aware of this but the +1/+2 to attack is the same bonus as a Pegasi/Dragon gives.

So it's not really worthwhile increasing the attack skill on the Dreadknight if you have Pegasi/Dragons.

The Dreadknight is indeed a better hero on certain maps. The small ones or the one with lots of players so you only get a few cities each. But on larger maps or maps that are 1v1 they are less valuable because the Pegasi/Dragon gives the same bonus (they don't stack). But he definitely doesn't need to move any slower. Otherwise he'd be a terrible initial hero and that's really his prime use, as a 1st hero to help take neutrals.

As far as hero leveling goes, this has been addressed in another thread. It's going to change quite a bit in Beta4. While it appears it's slow to level up that's only if you don't get involved in large battles. Once you do you'll see that a hero can level up 4-5 times from one single battle and I've had a new hero reach L7 or L8 in 2-3 turns if he arrives on the front lines with lots of units to kill. That's the big problem in Beta3.
