Why did the Ladder season just end with no announcement that it was coming to a close?

It forced the end of some games that weren't close to being finished.

That's the way it has been for a couple of seasons, ladder season end dates are set dates throughout the year now available on the ladder information link.

Yes if you look on the ladder page the next date is there. There are 3 seasons, January - April, May - August, September - December. We automated it about 2 seasons back.

I had a game ended as well but for our game it was obvious. If you hold 70% of all the resources including everything it's usually over.
We planed to release the new version today with the 90% fix and other things but I think snotling have to fix the tower thing first.

Should we send a warbaron mail 1 week before to all players playing ladder about the season end coming up?

No need to email players. Just post in the News section that the Ladder Season is about to end.
