Starting Cities

Postby Pillager » Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:47 pm

I read an explanation of how starting cities were going to work in beta 3. But, I can't seem to find it now.
I vaguely remember something about no production, some money and random starting units.

If I make a map, and select production and income at the starting cities what happens?

Pillager,

In Beta2, I did this. What happened is that sides (cities) that no one plays (ie a 4 player game on an 8 player map) get the production/income you set. But sides (cities) that are being used by players don't.

I believe Beta3 will work the same way.

I have a different question about starting cities.

With the new algorithm to place players far apart, assuming the map layout is divided up as:

123
456
789

if I make a map for 2-4 players and I create a starting spot in areas 1,2,3,7,8,9 and someone starts a 2 player game will they always be in positions 1-9 | 3-7 or is it possible to also be in 2-8. I'm just curious to know if it would be a waste of time to define a potential starting spot in areas 2 and 8.

I also assume that a 4 player game would start players in spots 1-3-7-9 and never in 2 or 8 and that a 3 player game would be in 1-3-8 or 2-7-9.

Is all that correct?

- Yes, the city that gets randomized as a players starting city always gets its production wiped out. All startingcities are exactly equal.

- KGB, a 2 player game in such a map setup as you describe will always start in 1-9 | 3-7. As for the other assumptions you are correct, unless I have some bug in my code :-)
