As a thought, it could be 1x1 matches with 5 games each, all 5 in the same time on different little maps like these:
Airstream, High Seas Combat, Stratego, Central Sahara, Lonely Isle etc. With 2 days delay. Winner is who won most of 5 games. Winner goes on to next match.
Also to give rank number to every player for making pairs. Something like this (for 16 players total):
1 vs 9, 2 vs 10 etc to 8 vs 16.
Next round will be (for 8 winners): 1 vs 5, 2 vs 6 etc to 4 vs 8.
I don't mind for other ways, too. But match with some games each looks more objective.

If we go with the elimination model, we definitely need 3 or 5 games. But if it will be round robin, than it has to be one game otherwise it would be unmanageable.

Sure, 5 games vs each of 4-5 other group members brings 20-25 games additionaly to current games that looks too much. If it is 3 games it brings 9-12 additional short games for group with 3-4 players that looks less non-liftable. It much depends on how many players will be in group

Long thread, now that the tournament got advertised, could someone summarise the actual modalities used for the tournament? What is the turn time limit?

I'd want to play.

I suspect a 2 round tournament, with smaller groups playing a round robin mini-tournament to advance to the second round will work best, but I'm good with whatever you decide.

I am in.

We need to decide on the map.

Battlefield is too big and takes long time to finish. Although it is my favorite map I have to vote against it.
Central Island and lonely island are too small.
I never found illuria balanced as a map but it has nostalgia.
Waste and Frozen Tundra maps lacks diversity as Horse Lord ruling the land
8 Kingdoms often lead to early lucky win when two players are side by side, it could be a good map with fix locations.

Bullrun has good potentials, it is a slow growth map. The only problem is, it is hard to recover from an early hero loss.
Four lords is also a tough map. Same goes here, hard to recover after an early hero loss.

So
1) Bullrun and Four Lords
2) Waste, Frozen Tundra, 8 Kingdoms, Illuria

We firstly need to define how many players will be totally in. It affects on how many groups will we have and how many players will be in group. I would offer to wait a little to get more players in, because I think map size and number of games can depend on this.
