Winning in less turns is better. But, if the games are played on different maps, game lengths will not be directly comparable (in any meaningful way).

Really. If players will play on different maps (that is possible when both opponents will vote for that), it means that number of turns is not rightly comparable. And other game stats probably can't be used, too.
Looks that needs other way.

There is a variant to organize shortest round for these 3 players. If so, they must to discuss and choose one of nearest days when they will be able to spend 3-4 hours a row for games. During these 3-4 hours they must complete 2 new games in the same time. Map for this short round is Lonely Isle - one of the fastest map.
It's not easiest way, but it's a game-based way.

Critical way is out-of-game way with falling dices for these 3 players.
This way doesn't look like the best way, but it's very fast though.

Other thoughts are welcome.

Huge question to Piranha and SnotlinG: will the tourney have displaying at Warbarons?
Would be very nice to see results in tables on separate sheet, like ladder results for 1x1, FFA and teams.
I don't know is it possible to do this, but I'm sure this were to be very wishful :)

 Ouch, I though the first group match would be FFA, my bad, sorry.

For 3-way tie (or 4-way tie) we can build a tie-breaker map with a lot of scouts laying around and start a simultaneous game with a referee. Referee will attack each players scouts one by one we determine the winner this way.

There are random choosers online but how can we make sure everybody watches it and make sure it is fair?

It's not a game, such map is the same as dice I said about. We needn't create any map to drop dice :)
But dice is only if players haven't enough time to play Lonely Isle - all the game in the same day, one of nearest days.

We may have no tie-breaks at all, though.

FYI we have had to update all WarCup games (and lobbies) to be of type ladder, this is to make it work properly with the new tournament code.

The limit of 3 games for free accounts is not connected to melee/ladder games anyway, but is valid for all types of games. To work around the problem of our free members not being able to join all their games, we will make a small one-time credit deposit to all our member... This so that the free members can become silvermembers (and then able to join/start all their games) for some time during round 1. For round 2 they will either need to keep their 3 slots free, or become silvermembers on their own accord :-)

Will this be the equivalent of a 90-day Silver?

I'm f2p and have not seen the credits infusion yet (and have
hit the 4-game limit).
