I've lost 89.9% battles before too

I *always* blame it on the fact that the simulation only does 1000 rolls and that another 1000 might next time show 90.0% due to the fact that 1000 isn't significant enough simulations and I would have won instead of lost.

I had one of those during the tournament. My first hero (a level 3 assassin) tried to attack a neutral village (defended by 1 light inf) and failed! Such a pathetic way for a hero to die.

I never risk a critical hero on 10% just to kill a cavalry. Even 6% is high so I usually put a front unit attacking a ruin protected by an orc. 10% is an acceptable risk for the first few turns be cause otherwise you just can't make progress also it is an acceptable risk if it involves capturing a critical city or looking for gold at a ruin.
