There are only 108 active players right now :(

I can't imagine very many of those are Newbies. Maybe 10-15 at the most so a Newbie ladder doesn't really make sense. But having a Newbie only game option (<15 total games played) might be a good idea.

I think a newbie only game option is a great idea.

I also think we need to get some partly formal player training by the community to help it grow. We could have representatives for different languages.

Maybe once tutorials are completed, provide the option to request a trainer and specify a language. Then an e-mail could be sent to the trainer pool of said language and someone would volunteer to help the new player.

Anyone do know how many of the newbies try multiplayer?

10%, 30% etc...

There is a solution which would fix several of the previously noted problems:

Make matchmaking compulsory for ladder games

Each season, a player may create 10 ladder games manually as usual, but after those are used up, match making must be used to play more ladder games within that season. So it would be a gradual change, which prevents excessive abuse automatically, and people are encouraged to use more matchmaking (if your free ladder games are used up, redirect to the matchmaking page). win-win. You could also have 3/5/10 manual-setup-ladder games per membership level, etc.

:)

(Also, make sure that matchmaking actually is bug-free, and randomly divide all ladder maps per category into three groups and let players disable up to two of the map groups, to give some control over it.)

Ambush

Postby fantastory » Sat Feb 11, 2017 10:14 am

How does the ambush work?

Lets say we have 2 ghost - 8% group ambush each - total 16%
vs 8 light infantry - no ambush or ward.

On first turn ghost have 16% chance for ambushing 1 infantry, lets say he failed the roll but won on strength struggle.

Now second infantry enters the battle, does ghost roll his ambush again?
Lets say he succeeded.
Third infantry enters battle, does ghost roll ambush for the third time?
Lets say he succeed.
Fourth infantry enters battle, but ghost fails both ambush and strength struggle.
Second ghost fights fifth infantry, starting with ambush roll of 16%?

Based on what I have read:

Every unit with ambush get the chance to ambush opponent i.e 16% once prior entering the battle.
That is, no ambush on second infantry.

You would get answer earlier if you have opened related topic.

Ambush rolls are only occur once against the first unit faced.

Also, there is group ambush and individual ambush. Ghosts provide the +8 group ambush, but the Ghost itself has 25 individual ambush. So in your situation, each Ghost would actually have an ambush of 41 (25 ind + 16 grp).

In your example, Ghost 1 would have a 41% ambush roll against the first lt inf. If he failed the roll but won on strength, he faces the second lt inf on strength alone, no ambush roll. Once the second ghost comes into battle, it will have a 41% ambush chance immediately (even if lt inf is down to 1 strength). From then on, no more ambush rolls would be made.

Here is what is written in the Wiki about Ambush (and the counter balancing Ward ability):
"Ambush
The ambush bonus is a chance to kill the enemy unit before entering battle. Ambush is a percentage chance and it only happen the first time a unit enters battle.Group ambush is a cumulative bonus which mean that group ambush from all units in the same army are added. Its possible to have 100% chance to kill the enemy unit with group and personal ambush combined.
Ward is a bonuses that negates ambush. If a unit has 50% ambush and the enemy unit has 25% ward the result ambush will be 50*0.25 = 12.5 (13) ambush. Ward is just like ambush cumulative."

Wiki, Battle calculations wrote:Units with ambush value have a chance to ambush the enemy and kill him before entering a fight.

Wiki, Battle bonuses wrote:Ambush - A percentage chance to ambush and kill an enemy before starting battle

First I thougth, A unit has single ambush per battle, but after some observations I was not sure.
Poor english reader would not be sure if the roll is done before ambusher or the victim enters the battle.
It could be like : "Once per battle, before entering, unit with ambush...."

Also:
Wiki, Battle bonuses, Ambush wrote:Ward is a bonuses that negates ambush. If a unit has 50% ambush and the enemy unit has 25% ward the result ambush will be 50*0.25 = 12.5 (13) ambush. Ward is just like ambush cumulative.

Ambush = 50%
Ward = 25%
Resulting ambush is 50% * (100%-25%) = 37,5
Correct?

That is correct, I should have read the calculation on the wiki to make sure it was correct before citing it
