Hero in Water

Postby KGB » Fri Jan 21, 2011 1:56 am

I believe I've mentioned this issue before. Heroes in the water (not flying) are still giving their command bonus to the stack.

I thought heroes in boats weren't going to be giving their bonus?

Otherwise, why fly over water at a slower rate when you can simply travel faster by boat.

Why not have heroes give a command bonus in water? I'm all for naval commanders.

On a side note...

If I ever move into a port with a stack containing: a hero, a flyer, and a boat...all hell breaks loose. There are boats sailing onto land and out of synch errors up the wazoo.

Pillager,

Initially the idea was for flying heroes only to grant command bonus's. Thus the incentive to fly. With the downside being that if your mount was killed over water the hero would drown unless another flier or naval stack came and rescued him.

Currently none of that is working/implemented. Heroes in the water grant their normal command bonus's same as they do when flying. If you lose your mount over water the hero doesn't drown, he just gets stuck unable to move until another flier or naval force comes and rescues him.

I personally don't care that much what gets implemented as long as it's consistent with what the rules say should be happening.

Hello,
A hero that is located in water or on a shore at the end of his turn without any ship or flier on the same tile should drown. If that doesnt happen its a bug in the code :-(

SnotlinG,

The hero definitely isn't drowning.

I played an opponent on High Seas combat and he was flying a Hero/Demon over water. I killed the Demon and left the hero to drown (rather than waste units to kill him). Next turn I was passing by with more boats and I saw the hero just sitting in the middle of the water. My opponent was frantically flying a bat toward him to rescue him. I killed the bat and then on the following turn the hero was still there and so I finished him off with a naval force since it was clear he wasn't going to die.

Thats a bit annoying. I even have a special History entry for this, so the player has to take the shame :-)

I´ll investigate for beta4 and fix the drowning...

Would you add death for heroes left on mountain tiles as well? "Lord died of exposure" or something?

Yes, I think I will add something like a check if the unit ends its turn on impossible terrain it will die.
i.e. Water, Shore, Mountain, Volcanic...

Are you going to introduce different hit points in the future?

Because then you could let them drown by losing 1 HP per turn, the same would work for volcanic or other terrain (freeze to death in the mountains). Just dont let them move without a flyer/ship anymore. That would make up for a good dramaturgic element. "Will his minions manage to save Lord Bane before he drowns in lava?"
Those HPs could only be healed with a bless spell or on a certain shrine or one would have to learn them back up with experience.
