Attack Bug

Postby LPhillips » Mon Feb 07, 2011 7:33 am

Sometimes, when I attack, the game grabs the top unit of the stack and attacks with it alone. This has happened three times, with stacks of two units. The remaining unit is then visible but un-selectable until I refresh the browser completely. It most recently happened in my new game, forcing my cavalry to attack one at a time, and sacrificing both of them to a neutral city that should have easily been conquered. I ignored it as a possible user error until it repeated itself a couple of times in separate games.
It's not a simple double-clicking issue, as I am left with a bugged unit on the map each time.

Using:
Windows Vista (ugh)
Firefox, recently updated

I updated to the brand-new Firefox version just about two weeks ago, whatever it is. So that's what I have been using.

Hello,
Is there any special order of actions to take to replicate the issue?

Not that I can tell. I'm sure it will happen again, and I'll try to pay attention. Hopefully someone will post some confirmation if this stays up at the top a little while.

I don't really even know if it is grabbing a unit off the top of the stack or dropping the last one, as it has happened with stacks of 2. But there is a glitched, non-selectable unit left over (until the browser is refreshed).

Alright, had a recurrence. It seems to have to do with being disconnected /losing sync.

I had a hero set to attack a city. I moved a fire elemental up to the city. Then I removed some of the hero's troops, and moved him up to the city. I grouped the fire elemental and the hero's army. I noticed the fight order had the elemental behind the heavy infantry which I hoped to preserve alive. I changed the fight order, which put me out of sync with the server (undoubtedly because of my bad internet). So I hit "OK" to reload. Everything loaded, I declined a bad hero offer, and then I selected him. Everything displayed correctly; fire elemental was still (apparently) grouped with him. However, as players who suffer from sync losses know, if you lose sync then the client doesn't remember what you have grouped after movement.

So when I attacked, and lost sync again, the hero attacked without the fire elemental. This dropped my chances of victory to 80.04%, which the computer happily took advantage of in order to completely wipe out my hero and his army.

The game is 2124, the battle is the first (and last) I've fought in turn 24, and the only thing I've done since fighting it is move my light infantry up to the city. Hopefully you could rerun the battle for me with the fire elemental (and without the light infantry) as intended, and fix it?

I have restored your game.

If the game reloaded fully, and you selected your stack - and the elemental was included - it should move with the hero. Are you sure it reloaded fully, i.e.: ("The game is out of sync with the server (3rd time during this turn)"), or was it only a partial -sync-load: ("The game is out of sync with the server. Trying to load back data from the server now").
Maybe not so easy to notice the difference in the popups though :-)

No, I'm sorry; I can't be that specific from memory. Thanks for the restore. I will keep trying to pin it down if it happens again. I used to have a *ton* more out-of-sync errors than now, especially the kind where some units can't be selected or interacted with until the browser is refreshed. But that has fallen off a ton with the switch from Firefox.
