KGB,

Good to hear that it is just my bad luck. I got something like 150 gold for searching a level 1 (which I assumed was about average). Those items also sound far superior to the ones I have found.

I suppose you could still expand without using your hero or building decent combat units in your capitol, but it seems unwise. I'll give it a try the next time I have a strong starting army.

Orcs, Wolfriders, Ghosts.

All 3 of those units can stop that stack since all 3 possess insta-kill skills that function regardless of the enemy stack bonus's.

Never, ever neglect making those units for just that purpose. Ghosts especially are an insurance policy because their skill transfers to all units in the stack. 3-4 Ghosts + Wolfriders/Orcs can kill 4-5 men in a +5/-1 stack leaving it vulnerable to being killed.

Do Scouts stack to improve your Hero's odds of surviving ruins?

Is a L1 Paladin plus 3 scouts unkillable at a L1 Ruin?

I haven't died much in ruins (due mostly to being to scared to search them). But, say i encounter a stack of skeletons in one, kill a few and then die. What will i encounter if i search again? The remaining foes, the same amount as first time i searched, or a completely new stack of enemies (ghouls for instance)?

I asked that of Piranha in a team game.

His response was that what you had killed should remain dead.

Since that time and the addition of the undead lore to the scout unit I haven't lost a battle so I have been unable to verify. But at least you know in theory how it's supposed to work.

The one question I did forget to ask that I would like the answer to is what happens if you have 2 heroes in a stack and one dies. Does the 2nd one continue on against what remains and can you order the heroes in the fight order in case you have a L10 Paladin and a L1 Paladin in the same stack?

I'm not sure about that answer.
I entered a lv 1 ruin and encountered 2 ghouls.
I killed one, the other killed my hero.
In the next round my second hero entered the ruin again and was killed by 2 ghouls again.
I think the units respawn when you enter a ruin.

The 2 ghoul entry in level 1 ruins is removed but since all ruins were populated when the game was started the change may have been fixed after.

I'm just losing a ladder game due to the same 2 ghouls.

I was just attacked by 2 ghouls in a level 1 ruin in a new game. turned out that this is still possible. I removed it now but all current games can have 2 ghouls in a level 1 ruin.

Just so that I understand how the dice works...the below are the different levels:

L1 ruin 12 sided dice
L2 ruin 20 sided dice
L3 ruin 33 sided dice

So if I have a level 2 Paladin with UL of 12 and have 3 Scouts with him, making a UL of 15, and visit a L2 ruin, then I'd have a 75% chance of defeating the UL in the ruin?

Does the 90% rule apply to ruins?

Is a level 1 hero not allowed to search a ruin above level 1?

Given the UL bonus and the ambush bonus, it seems like ghosts are a very useful unit to produce...does anyone start producing them right away instead of getting a second hero?
