Anyone having success with group bonuses (like scorpions)? How does this work in battle? The bonus reduced as they die, or does it stay the same throughout the battle?

I stays the same the whole battle.
I thought it would be pretty good but after using scorpions a couple of times I don't know. Seems like you need to wait until you have a bunch of them or you are throwing them away, so I went for 2 cities with scorpions. Thats quite a log of gold and you still have to wait.

I think they need to be a bit cheaper.

I was about to invest in scorpions, especially since I had a castle next to a strength temple. I think having just four grouped together would have been very powerful, but I wasn't in the position to wait 8 turns for that...

I also thought that you have to buy them in at least two cities. and that gives you real powerful 2-turners - but they are good only for a protracting positional war, not for blitzkiregs.

But the bigger problem is with demons since they are easy to counter with elves - if your enemy will find out that you are producing them he will imediatly buy elves (or eagles). To be effective demons have to fight in first row and that makes them vulnerable to antiflyers. so in my opinion devils should be immuned to the antiflyer quality.

I don't think that would be a good idea. It would make Demons too good since 1 up front with a bunch of Dragons/bats/heroes behind it would be almost impossible to stop with the Demon being immune to anti-air. The whole idea of anti-air is to prevent flying stacks from being too good since they are immune to terrain/boat penalties etc.

If you are making Demons you have to know when/where to use them to avoid anti-air. I do think that Demons are over priced right now and need to be a lot cheaper (along with tons of other units which I argued for in another thread since hardly *anyone* buys anything other than 1 turn units and bonus units like Pegasi/Dragon etc. Everything else is virtually never bought because it's not worth it).

I still buy different things, usually nothing more than 2 turn units though. I think this goes back to mapmaking though. If the minimum income for a city was increased to at least 15 then all the maps that use random cities would be more balanced and fun to play, especially in FFA games. I can't even count how many 5-10 gold city units I have. It's not worth buying anything if 20 cities give you a total income of 268 gold.

But is this a mapmakers problem? That's a lot of burden on them to increase the income of every single city on their maps. Bottom line is no city should have an income less than 15 gold.

Both scorpions and demons are a bit overpriced. Demons have the additional issue of being a 4 turn unit that is best used in large numbers.

I think the demon would be a more valuable unit if it was a strong, fast flyer with fear.
