AI Can stack too many units

Postby LPhillips » Mon Feb 13, 2012 5:13 pm

Hi, I lost my screenshot, but...
The AI can stack more than 8 units on a tile, resulting in a stack with no number on it. When I saw a stack with no number that was present more than one turn, I naturally prodded it with my hero (thinking it was a lone Devil). There were 13 enemy units. This pattern continued throughout my test of Final Stand, and can still be observed in that game. Tends to happen with large numbers of units owned by Black; trying to move past each other I guess?

I see this in human player games too.

It happens when you cross one stack over another and the non-moving stack has 8 men in it. I *always* get an out-of-sync error from the server when this happens. A refresh of the browser shows the moving stack did move across the other stack. But I bet in the AI's case it can't refresh it's browser  So the stacks end up on top of each other.

I hope that's enough to help re-create the problem.

To replicate: Just play Final Battle. I already ended my game there, after 48 turns :(
It's just too hard to enjoy after a few mistakes. Not luck-based, ambush-crazed hard like Piranha's, but grinding, wear-you-down-and-punish-you-for-mistakes hard.
If you can survive until the AIs start sending large numbers of units, one of the eastern AI's (black) overstacks his units quite frequently (moving half a dozen stacks over the same path in difficult terrain).

Alternately you could recreate the problem my making any game where the AI has a lot of production and sends it all at you over the same difficult path.

Snotling,

I have it right now in my game on LPhillips map

Game 9788 - Solo test.

On the right side of my center you will see massive groupings of units that don't seem to ever attack me because it seems the Yellow stack next to my city is blocking everything. Right next to that is a Black hero with 32 units in his stack. Next to that are several more AI stacks with more than 8 men in them.

I actually did that. It's quite entertaining, sending that stack of 8 out there. A level 26 DK and level 19 Paly with Grandfather are a damn good combo! :D

Oh, yeah, Grandfather is in the central ruin for extra fun.

KGB,
Are you still playing that game, or can I pause it and test/investigate as I wish?

Snotling,

Test as you wish. I am winning big time so if you spend a turn or so investigating it's not going to cause me any issues. There are 2 days between 2 turns so I have plenty of time to catch up.

One other thing you might want to look at. I think gold site income is bugged. I noticed it in this game especially since I take many turns in a row. My income right now hovers right around 0 to slightly negative. However each turn I take all the Orange players gold sites and it jumps to slightly positive. Then on his turn he takes most of them back. I would expect I would NOT receive gold from those sites and so my total gold should NOT be increasing and in fact should be declining each turn since I make quite a few 1 turn units. Yet it seems to me that it was always growing by a small amount every turn...

LPhillips,

Yeah I eventually found the Grandfather, along with 8 Vampires you forgot to mention :) Lucky my L5 Paladin brought 3 Ghosts from another hero offer else he might have died (as it was with only 30 UL I was sweating when I took that first hit). Ironically the ruin regenerated 2 turns later with a cloak giving be +10 group ambush and a personal +25. Another sweet item!

Given the # of turns required to get 100%, the ruins tend to regenerate several times. I hope we can control that in the next scenario editor!
