Quick question here. What does Mare Internum stand for?

I only ask because this map looks VERY much like the old board game 'Conquest of the Empire' and I wanted to know if that was the inspiration.

It's latin, means 'inner sea'. Looks a heck of a lot like the Mare Nostrum map to me, but no Atlantis.

I think the inspiration for both is earth's geography. You know, somewhere in that place called "RL" :-P

I hate to speak for KGB, but I suspect he was perfectly aware that this was a map of the Mediterranean (I was anyway). Its is just that this particular depiction of that sea reminds me of another map.

Sorry, just kidding around. The ole Milton Bradley game is indeed a map of the same region, including the same areas.

Including the same starting spots as the Milton Bradly game too. That's why I asked since I obviously knew it was the Mediterranean region.

That board game was cool because you started with a Leader unit called your Caesar and if you lost him you were knocked out of the game regardless of territory/armies left. It would be a cool feature of Warbarons to add a trigger event where if a named hero died you were eliminated. Then it would be possible to play games like this (in DLR someone did a scenario map of Conquest of the Empire with a special named hero for each side with the understanding you had to resign if you lost that hero - which was the only hero you got all game).

Could be fun to play a game with that understanding, since there's one hero offered for 500 at the beginning. I would stipulate also that no Sea Serpents/Kraken be made, since this map seems ripe for their abuse (and they don't fit the theme). I can't quite imagine the Caesars riding around on Kraken. It's unfortunate that we wouldn't be able to mimic the "Generals" mechanic, but we could still give it a shot?

Maybe some day the triggers will be advanced enough that we can stipulate a full surrender (territories, armies, and treasury) to the player who slays the enemy's Caesar.

Having a 'Kill the enemy leader' game sounds like fun to me. The participants could agree on a specific hero class at the start of the game (paladin, dreadknight or valkyrie). Everyone would take their starting hero and choose the agreed on class, then take only heroes of the other two types for the rest of the game. The paladin seems like the obvious Caesar to me.

Hopefully there will be more victory condition options introduced in some future beta. I am making a scenario based on the old game Gemfire. But, victory in that game revolves around capturing the other players' gems, and I couldn't figure any way to mimic that with the current scenario triggers :cry:
