How exactly does Ambush work in battle calculations?

Postby hungrytales » Thu Mar 08, 2012 9:14 pm

Oddly it seems that question hasn't been asked yet. The Warpedia says:

Units with ambush value have a chance to ambush the enemy and kill him before entering a fight. When the ambush hit or missed, that unit won't get another ambush chance until the next time you attack with that unit

I'm not sure of the meaning of "attack" in this context. Does it mean that any given unit can use ambush ability only once during a battle? For instance, let's say my orc kills an opponent unit with ambush in the first battle round. Does it use ambush on the next unit in the following round or only in the next battle?

If it's the latter, then it sucks to be orc :)

HungryTales,

The latter. Otherwise it would be too powerful.

And it doesn't suck to be an Orc. He gets a free 6% chance to kill the enemy unit no matter how powerful it is. Even if he misses the ambush roll he still gets to fight regularly.

Thx for the answer, KGB. What I meant wasn't that orcs are underpowered. I just thought, from the orcish perspective, it has to suck to have such powerful ability like ambush and virtually almost always die before having a second opportunity to use it :)

Such is the life of an Orc. Dying for the *greater good* is the best you can hope for. :)

Sometimes the greater good is increased gold for plundering, and it's better to spare his life :) so it's not always certain death he's facing.

Just to clarify, that's a 6% chance to kill a target, not just wound it once like in normal combat?
And is that only when they attack? Not when they defend?

Dreadfeather,

It's kill.

And it works in all cases, attack or defend.
