Removed strength temple. Added four cities to middle. Let me know what you think about the changes.

Looks good. A little different tactic.
North-east central city is not active as other 3

Central cities make field units doesn't matter so much, there are some different tactic for expansion.

Yes, the center cities actually seem to make city units to strong. Possibly make map larger so units have to stop on the plain.

I hate to suggest this, because it's the most pain-in-the-ass solution of all.

But the truth is that the problem is the scale, CC. The playing area needs to be increased to take up more of the canvass. The design as it stands now is pretty well refined; it's the distances that present problems.

This equates to suggesting that you redraw your map, but it's the real solution to the problems.
