What is the point of turn limits then?

The point of a short turn limit is to force fast turns. That is the reason for the 2x limit. That whole mechanic would basically be discarded if you are allowed to cumulatively save hours as suggested by several players.

The point is to add a cushion for those who finish quickly, not to create a mechanic by which you can circumvent turn limits. The turn limit should still be in effect, and the player is still responsible for choosing a game with a higher limit if he doesn't like short ones. Anyone can host games...

LPhillips,

To get games moving in case players drop out or attempt to stall forever.

The purpose should most definitely not be to screw someone because they can't play on weekends or have to be away for a couple of days for work. Nothing is worse than a well contested game being decided because one player or another misses a turn due to real life commitments when they have been playing their turns regularly the entire game.

Except that the most you can store is 4 days worth. So once you use that up, say you go away for a 3 day weekend or a 3 day work trip, you are down to 1 stored day. It's not like you can suddenly take multiple 4 day turns in a row. I don't see the big deal about this to be honest.

Except many players won't join games with 3-5 day turn times. I'd end up playing about 3-4 players over and over again. Then you get back to arguing on ladder games that player X won't play me on 5 day turns etc etc etc. The community doesn't need more fragmenting that it already has now in terms of players exclusively playing 50x maps vs others only playing large FFA games or only playing on certain time limits or some other option. Maybe when the site gets a thousand active players it won't be a big deal but when there are only a hundred or so the game should do everything possible to match players against each other.

I can buy that. I don't personally get bent out of shape over a player taking a long time. However, there are those who set short turn limits because they genuinely dislike waiting. It seems like that position is worth defending. Supposedly, simultaneous turns will be implemented soon enough for the impatient. I don't have a personal problem with a turn limit extension nor with long turn limits. For those who want a fast game, I always suggest that they play committed players on a long limit. However, shouldn't those who want to force fast turns be able to do so?

It's an immature player who won't play a committed player with a long turn limit. But do we have the right to argue that they shouldn't be allowed to play that way? In the end, this is a decision for Snotling and Piranha. Since none of the impatient 24-hour-only players have come to make their own case, I defer for lack of vested interest. I'd be happy to take advantage of the system you propose myself. So I'll stop fighting someone else's fight :)

We are going to try a variant of this in 0.8.
It works like this:
When you hit endturn you will be able to store leftover time to your next turn.
goldmembers keep 100% of the leftover time
silvermembers 50%
free memebers 25% (so still a good idea for free members to end turn early)
You can max save the gamespeeds amount of time, so a game with a 1 day turntime you can max save 24h.
Also, there is a max of 2 days, so even for games with a turntime of 3 days, you can max save 2 days of time.

For teamgames, the player with the least amount of time saved will be the one determining the teams extra time for next turn.

So example:
piranha (free member) hits endturn 12h before team turn deadline. He gets 12h * 0.25 = 3h saved.
SnotlinG (gold member ofcourse) hits endturn 8h before team turn deadline. He gets 8h * 1 = 8h saved.
So next turn the team will get 3hs of extra turn-time.

Its a pretty simple system, but should hopefully encourage players to end turn early as well as give some extra to the silver/gold members

Thanks! Sounds very reasonable, so even if there are only a few hours left, it is still beneficial to hit end turn earlier. :)

EDIT: Actually, the 25% is not very appealing at all. If there are 12 hours left in an 24 hour game, I would still get 36 hours by not pressing end turn, versus 27 hours for hitting end turn. Not very appealing. :( Why not having a different maximum on the saved time for the memberships?

However, what is this gold/silver/free membership? I cannot find any info about it. How do I become a gold member? (My forum search for "gold member" brings up some user discussions what could be payed for, but nothing definitive, nor how to pay and how much; the account lists credit, but I cannot click on them nor does it list soemthing about it the profile settings. Very confusing.)

Seconded.

Free: max 24 hrs saved
Silver: max 48 hrs saved
Gold: max 72 hrs saved
