Seems like there should be strategy tips linked into map descriptions somehow. There are cool maps in existence where play balance depends on the players understanding the objectives of their positions. If you have basically random opponents, the chances of *someone* not understanding important aspects of the scenario are relatively high, which can make it hard to get a fun game going.
This could be handled either by a note from the map designer, a link to a forum for a particular map, or by implementing an objective system (which could actually be pretty cool). Something like the quest system in Warlords 2, but linked to starting positions. For example, capture X city by turn Y gets you some amount of gold, or an item, or something like that. You can put carrots in via items and such like with current maps, but they aren't linked to turns. Possible objectives, all potentially with turn-based expiration:
(1) Take a city by a certain turn
(2) Build a certain type of unit by a certain turn
(3) Get a certain type of hero to a certain level
(4) Kill x units of player y
