There would need to be a separate ladder edition with restricted spawns. Some players don't have a chance. The southeastern player eats the central player in a matter of a few turns.

While I don't have my heart set on this being a ladder, lots of testing went into this map. The snow based player was indeed the weakest player a while ago and the southeast the strongest, the map has seen 2 revisions with many changes since with that in mind, also now that starting positions have been set, the only time the two are pitted against each other is in FFA mode. (in which map balance rarely determines the outcome due to player inequality, drop outs etc.) I doubt It is perfectly balanced as I haven't had the time since the 0.8 release. Each release or change to the game mechanics also changes the the balance of asymmetrical or themed maps.

Even without the starts being set this is much better balanced than many of the current ladder maps such as waterworld. With the player starts as is I could definately see this as a ladder map, especially since it is also a very fun map.
